God accepted Abel’s gift because he gave it in faith.
He did not regard Cain’s gift because Cain did not offer
it in faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Heb 11:6).

I see what you mean. Able made an offering in line with the Temple
religion -- an animal sacrifice -- while Cain only offered dirt-babies.

In ancient cultures, wealth was often measured in animals. This was
true even after the invention on money. So sacrificing an animal was
sacrificing wealth.

It's also true that the Nabataeans didn't value the settled life of farmers.
Even when they were quite wealthy they preferred to live in tents.

Again, something that is still seen in Arab cultures to an extant. Kadafi's
home was once bombed, for example, but he was unharmed because he
was outside in a tent!
