As an A-1 conspiracy theorists, one that makes the likes of you-know-who
look like an amateur, I'd like to share an extremely plausible explanation
for the obscene price:

It's a promotion.

See. The sellers bought it from themselves. Then all they have to do is pay
for the auction house fee. That's it. And they might've easily negotiated that
in advance.

Why would they bother?

Because if they can get people to pay even just a few hundred hundred
thousand for these things, or a few thousand, then they've raked in
incalculable amounts of cash.

I mean, it can be computer generated... they can spin these out by the
billions.

I guess a million times an illusion is still just an illusion,
but at $40 each, I can name well over one million stars
for that price.
